What is COIS (Confederation of Indian Startups)

COINS (Confederation of Indian Startups) is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led, and industry-managed organization that plays a proactive role in the development of New Startup India. Established in 2019, COINS brings together Indian and international members including startups, investors, syndicates, incubators, accelerators, government bodies, NBFCs, SMEs, and MNCs. Its core aim is to build a strong ecosystem that supports the growth of startup businesses, enabling sustainable economic development and creating large-scale employment opportunities across the country.

COINS works closely with the government on policy matters through advisory and consultative processes. It assists startups in identifying and implementing corporate policies and support programs. Through strategic national and international partnerships, COINS helps advance startup initiatives in key development areas such as healthcare, education, skill development, water conservation, livelihood, and women empowerment. The organization serves as a platform for consensus-building and thought leadership, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness, and business opportunities across the startup ecosystem.

India is on the path to becoming a US$ 5 trillion economy in the next five years, and startups are expected to be the primary growth drivers in achieving this target. To support this vision, COINS focuses on key priority areas including employment generation, startup policy advocacy, policymaking for new startup technologies, and governance. It also promotes global collaborations, building international partnerships with countries like Canada, Russia, Singapore, Ghana, UAE, and the UK. Today, COINS stands as a vital reference point for both Indian industry and the international startup community.

COINS: Key Initiatives

The Indian startup ecosystem has matured significantly, now ranking as the third-largest in the world with over 1.5 lakh recognized startups. COINS, through its strategic partnerships and programs, has been instrumental in this growth story

1. Policy Advocacy and Regulatory Support

COINS acts as a key voice for the startup community, engaging with central and state governments to advocate for a more enabling policy environment. Our recent policy recommendations have focused on simplifying compliance, easing regulatory hurdles for early-stage companies, and securing tax benefits that are vital for sustainable growth, all contributing to a Viksit Bharat.

2. Financial and Mentorship Ecosystem

Recognizing that access to capital and guidance are key to a startup's success, COINS works closely with government initiatives like the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) and the Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS). We connect entrepreneurs with a network of vetted investors, venture capital firms, and family offices. The COINS mentorship platform provides personalized, sector-specific guidance from seasoned entrepreneurs and industry leaders, helping to build an Aatam nirbhar Bharat.

3. Global Linkages and International Collaboration

To ensure Indian startups can compete on the world stage, COINS actively builds bridges with international innovation hubs. We facilitate inbound and outbound delegations and participate in global forums like the Startup20 Engagement Group. These collaborations are vital for exploring new markets, attracting international investment, and fostering cross-border knowledge exchange. The Confederation of Indian Startups is more than an organization; it is a movement. By championing innovation, fostering collaboration, and advocating for a supportive environment, COINS is helping to write the next chapter of India's economic success story, in line with the Make in India initiative.

4.Strategic Market Access and Corporate Integration

COINS facilitates critical partnerships between growth-stage startups and established corporations. Our Corporate Accelerator Program and Corporate Innovation Program connect startups with large enterprises to pilot and co-create solutions, addressing real-world business challenges. This synergy not only provides startups with a crucial go-to-market platform but also helps corporations in their digital and technological evolution, embodying the spirit of being Vocal for local.

5. Expanding to Tier II & III Cities

The growth of the Indian startup ecosystem is no longer confined to metro cities. COINS is actively working to democratize entrepreneurship by establishing outreach programs and hubs in Tier II and Tier III cities. This is crucial for tapping into local talent and addressing challenges specific to these regions, from agriculture technology to sustainable energy, fully embracing the ethos of Swadeshi.
